Contributions to the Poster Session at the 1998 UWERN Annual Science Meeting
assembled by A A White

The second UWERN Annual Science Meeting was held in Reading on September 7th and 8th, 1998. The concensus in JCMM afterwards was that - during a successful and lively meeting - the poster session had been too short. There had not been time to give all the posters the attention they required, or to justify the effort that had gone into producing them. It was decided to assemble some sort of compendium, at least of the JCMM contributions, for local use and record.

The order of presentation reflects many considerations, of which the physical scale of the relevant phenomena is the most important. We start with the perspective of individual cumulonimbus clouds and rainfall catchments, and then work up through the mesoscale structure of mid-latitude weather systems to the scale of the weather systems themselves. Deviations from this order may be observed, and can be ascribed to various causes and influences; but papers on similar subjects generally do appear together.
