JCMM INTERNAL REPORT NO.116
The mystery of striated cloud heads in satellite imagery
R S Dixon, K A Browning and G J Shutts
Striated cloud heads seen in satellite imagery are associated with some of the most extreme cases of rapid cyclogenesis. Two clear examples are presented and one is interpreted in detail in the light of a Limited Area Model analysis. Six alternative explanations are considered but none satisfactorily fits all the evidence.
