Abstract
A review of the properties of rearrangements of scalar and vector valued functions is presented. Applications of this theory to
- steady vortices in ideal fluid flow,
- decomposition of weather forecast error into a combination of displacement error and qualitative features error, and
- a model for large scale motions of the atmosphere and ocean are described.
