Availability of VCS

The University of California holds the copyright for VCS software, but with the release of VCS Version 2.7, ALL users can freely download software binaries (executables) for supported platforms.

However, VCS source code is limited to those NONPROFIT institutions whose representatives agree to the terms of the collaboration agreement with PCMDI/Lawrence Livermore Natonal Laboratory. This agreement is intended to encourage the involvement of other interested parties in the further development of VCS. A collaborating organization may therefore make duplicate copies of VCS source code as long as they are for internal, not-for-profit use only (i.e., the software must not be given or sold to a third party).
