Climate Theme
Theme leader: Professor Ted Shepherd
Our climate research aims to understand the processes that drive climate variability and change and so improve predictions of climate on seasonal to multi-decadal timescales. With the Met Office and the National Centre for Atmospheric Science (NCAS) we represent the national capability in climate modeling and are working to develop the next generation of global climate models. With the Walker Institute we also address the impacts of climate change.
Research groups
We discuss ongoing research in informal research groups, many comprising researchers associated with several members of academic staff as well as Met Office staff from MetOffice@Reading.
- Aerosol-climate interactions group
- Africa group
- Clouds group
- Dynamical processes group
- Oceanography group
- Radiation and climate processes group
- Stratosphere and climate group
NCAS has the following climate research groups at Reading:
- Climate variability and change group
- High resolution climate modelling group
- Land-surface processes group
- Tropical climate group
