MOSES 2.2 Input Data for FAMOUS
Start File
To obtain a MOSES 2.2 start file for FAMOUS, I used the reconfiguration to interpolate from a N48 HadAM3 file to N24 FAMOUS resolution.
Set up a reconfiguration only job xchho, based on standard MOSES 2.2 HadAM3 run xchhj with start file xchhj.start.
Put in FAMOUS horizontal resolution parameters.
Atmosphere -> Model Resolution & Domain -> Horizontal

Put in FAMOUS vertical resolution parameters.
Atmosphere -> Model Resolution & Domain -> Vertical
- Levels: 11
- Wet levels: 11
- Ozone levels: 11
- Half levels purely sigma: 4
- Half level pure pressue starts: 11
- ETA Table:
- Boundary layer levels: 3
- Deep soil levels: 4
- Cloud levels in radiation: 10
- Starting from gravity wave drag: 3
Put in FAMOUS land sea mask and orography ancillaries, and set all fields to "configured".
Atmosphere -> Ancillary & Input Data Files -> Other Ancillary Files & Lateral Boundary Files
- Land Sea Mask: $FAMOUS_ANCIL/qrparm.mask
- Orography: $FAMOUS_ANCIL/qrparm.orog
Switched all other ancillary fields that were "configured" to "not used"
Resulting start file (on HPCX):
