MOSES 2.1

As I understand it, MOSES 2.1 is basically the MOSES 2 boundary layer and surface hydrology code included in the UM, with a few extra fixes and input data. It introduces tiled diagnostics, where each grid box contains a fraction of 9 surface types rather than a single type.

To set up a MOSES 2.1 run in the 4.5 UM, select the following sections:

• Boundary Layer: 7A
• Surface Hydrology: 7A
• Vegetation Distribution: 1A (fixed) or 2A (interactive)

Include the following modsets which contain code fixes (these are also required for MOSES 2.2):

The following ancillary fields are affected:

• Soil moisture and snow depth
• Deep soil temperatures
• Soil parameters
• Vegetation Fractions
• Plant functional types

In the base job which I set up (xchib), I switched off the reconfiguration and used a start file containing the required data.
