Reading Trade Justice Group Meeting Minutes -26th Sept 2002

1) International Festival (15th Oct to 4th Nov)

(i) Our event will take place on 31st October. We will show a CAFOD video, followed by activities.

ACTION for SEAN: Choose activity and lead the event.

ACTION for NAOMI: Book the video

ACTION for DAN: Design a flyer for event.

ACTION for Peter: Photocopy the flyer (RISC will fund this)

ACTION for MARINA: distribute flyers at the university

(ii) The RTJG stall

There are a number of events at which it would be appropriate to have a stall:

ACTION for DAN: sort out people to help out at stalls (via email)

(Plus, albeit after the Festival period,  Mark Thomas at RISC on the 8th and
15th November) ACTION for PETER: tell Sam we want a space.

ACTION for NAOMI: order some WDM briefings to place on stall.

Stall should include RTJG press-cuttings, books borrowed from RISC and maybe a
video.

(2) Jane Griffiths

(i) Naomi has aked JG if she could attend a RTJG meeting in January or
February. No reply as yet.

We need to sort out the approach of the meeting and decide on some questions.
Do this the November RTJG meeting.

(ii) ACTION for NAOMI: write to Jane regarding her views on the GATS
consultation.

(3) RTJG structure

We will have an AGM in November, where we will vote on the introduction of a
new structure.

ACTION for PETER: draft a constitution and send out to email list, asking for
feedback.

(4) Lobbying MEPs regarding GATS. Mark has produced a draft and will send it off soon.

(5) Government consultation (with civil society) on GATS.

ACTION for NAOMI: Circulate it when it arrives.

We can formulate a response (under the aegis of RBC). Make sure that the  RBC
have this topic on their agenda for 5th November meeting.

(6) Reading Group. Next meeting 22nd October.

(7) Economic Theory Working Group.

We are planning to set up a working group aimed at improving our knowledge  of
the underlying economic theory of trade justice. Marina has offered to provide
some material to start this off.

(8) Web-site / email lists

ACTION for DAN: consider setting up a bulletin board on the website, plus other
ways of sifting and reducing the email traffic  (eg one email list for general
info and one for specific RTJG business).

(9) Further meetings

We need to book  for all of next years' RTJG meetings.  ACTION for NAOMI: ask
Hamish which room would be best for him (in terms of hearing) and check on the
cost of each room.

Next Meeting: 31st October 2002 This will be a RIF event - not a normal meeting
