From a.i.barrett@reading.ac.uk Wed Nov 25 17:37:11 2009 Date: Wed, 25 Nov 2009 17:37:08 +0000 From: Andrew Barrett To: all@met.reading.ac.uk, Met Social Subject: [Met-social] Meteorology Department Pantomime 2009 Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, and whoever else is on the met-social email list... As I sit down to write this email (at 5pm) and look outside, I notice that it is dark, very dark. This can mean only one thing - WINTER. And as much as you may try and kid yourself that it's not true, Christmas is indeed approaching (one month today - don't mean to panic you!). Anyway, Christmas brings many good things: mince pies, mulled wine, old men wearing silly red suits, you get the picture but most importantly of all, it brings THE METEOROLOGY DEPARTMENT CHRISTMAS PANTOMIME. It gives me great pleasure to announce to those of you who weren't in WCD on Friday that this year, for your viewing pleasure, the PhD students will be performing The Blizzard of Oz (and not 'Terminator' - sorry!). For anyone who has joined the department in the last year, the department pantomime is usually a highlight of the department's social calendar, it involves not only a very amusing met-themed pantomime, but also a buffet in the synoptic lab beforehand (where we ask everyone to bring one dish to share) and an after party in the coffee room, with music, dancing, beer and wine. This year, the performance will take place on the night of Thursday 10 December, with the buffet starting from 6:30pm. The performance will start around 8pm and the after party will continue until midnight. Entrance is by ticket only, which we will start selling tomorrow in the coffee room at coffee breaks and lunchtimes (11-11.30, 1-2, 4-4.30) and from 2U06 at other times. Tickets are generously priced at £5, with discounted tickets for students at £4, kids are encouraged to come along too and admission for them is free. In Summary: Pantomime: The Blizzard of Oz When: Thursday 10 December - from 6:30 Where: Meteorology Department with performance in Agriculture Tickets: £5 (£4 students, kids free) - on sale in the coffee room from tomorrow (Thursday). We look forward to see you there, at what is always a very popular event for staff and students alike.
