POKER : The Met. Dept. : The new age

Poker is life (according to googlism.com). We love it. Here you'll find a list of players and corresponding number of `Wins' and 'Lasts' in the new age of Met. Dept. Poker (starting May 2007). We've also put a couple of our own Poker variations on here, so we don't forget 'em. History will record us as the most rule-sussed, on-the-ball, memory-enabled group of Poker players ever, we're sure. Especially once we've learnt the crib sheets off by heart. There was a previous age of Met. Dept. poker but the Wildman left to go to Leeds.

We also play the occasional charity night where the winner decides which charity to donate the winnings to. The results of those nights are also recorded for posterity.

The variations

Lagoon: This is sort of a cross between Texas Hold 'Em and Draw. One (or two) card(s) per player are placed in the pool, half of them face-down and half face-up. Each player in turn (anti-clockwise; opposite to betting direction) burns up to two cards by placing them face-up in the pool and taking from the pool. Alternatively, the order of card exchange can be decided by bidding: the bids are all revealed simultaneously, the chips go into the pot, with the highest bidder burning cards first. For equal bids the order is clockwise from the dealer. Betting, as usual, occurs at every opportunity.

Show your Drawers: Hi-lo draw, with two optional burns of up to two cards. Cards given to a player are face up. Order of players having cards swapped is reversed on second round.

BLG (Better to be Lucky than Good): Draw with one optional first burn, followed by a compulsory four-card burn. Only the Wildman could invent a skill-less game like this.

Dusty Bin: Draw with optional three-two-one burns. Often played with wildcards 3-2-A of particular colours or suits.

For posterity

8th Sep 10 - Double factoid - Cashpoint is no more - Charlie is in the black for two games on the trot! And, Acid Man and The Berator have significantly negatively correlated results. Go Team Pelly!

2nd Sep 09 - Close finish - just £3.40 between first and last - the closest ever

13th Aug 09 - Not unlucky for Charlie - his first ever win!

24-25th May 08 - Wildman stag double header - stag lost, Alan the winner.

5th Sep 07 - Edinburgh special - Wildman going wild and losing all his chips within 10 hands.
