Discussion paper arising from a convection parameterization workshop

This paper emerged from a JWCRP workshop held in Dartington in January 2013, and some follow up discussions and meetings. It discusses the form of future parameterizations and what work will be needed to achieve such methods..

It has been published by Atmospheric Science Letters. According to SHERPA it is legitimate to archive this accepted version on an author's own website, but the publishers' final version cannot be so-archived until 3 years after publication. However, the paper is fully open access and the published version can be obtained from here.
