Making the annual cycle of flux adjustments

Run the UM in Haney forcing mode, outputting the ocean diagnostic 30203 (anomalous ocean heat flux) as a monthly mean value. Inness et al (2003) ran the model for 20 years and created the annual cycle of flux adjustments by averaging each month from the last 10 years of this integration. A shorter period may be acceptable. How you go about creating the average annual cycle is pretty much up to you and will depend on the tools available. I converted the PP output for this diagnostic into netcdf and then used a Fortran program to do the averaging. This then gave me a netcdf file with 12 monthly mean values of the anomalous heat flux.

Click on the make ancillary link on the left hand side to find out how to convert this file into an ancillary file that the UM can read.
